Book Club Notes, a weekly newsletter from The Book Club podcast

This newsletter, introduced weekly by Tabby or Dominic, is a companion to The Book Club podcast. Every Saturday, we’ll share talking points and questions so that you can dissect the books in your own time.
You’ll also find suggestions for what to read next as well as a curtain raiser to what we'll be covering in the weeks ahead. We want these notes to become a place for you, our book club community, to share recommendations with fellow readers, as well as reviews of the works we've covered on the show.
We hope this newsletter brings joy, intellectual stimulation and humour to your inbox.
The Book Club
INSIDE THE WORLD OF BOOKS
The Book Club is a podcast fronted by Dominic Sandbrook and Tabitha Syrett.
The show brings the historical context behind some of the world’s most loved books to life.
Every week, the hosts explore a classic or contemporary title, unpacking the world in which it was written and the story behind the author.
This is not your typical literature podcast: The Book Club educates and entertains, leaving you with a new understanding of some of the greatest stories ever told.

The Book Club is presented by….

Dominic Sandbrook
Dominic Sandbrook is one of Britain’s best-known historians and broadcasters. He is the bestselling author of acclaimed histories of post-war Britain, alongside books on the United States, popular culture and the Adventures in Time series for younger readers. His work has been adapted into numerous BBC television documentaries, many of which he has written and presented, and he has been a prolific newspaper columnist since 2005. A Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, he is also the co-host of The Rest Is History, the world’s biggest history show, which reaches millions of listeners and has been taken to sold-out stages across the UK and around the world.

Tabitha Syrett
Tabitha Syrett is the producer of one of the world’s most popular podcasts, The Rest Is History, which she has produced since 2023. During her tenure, she has overseen many of the show’s hugely successful series and produced live editions too, helping cement its status as a global podcasting phenomenon. The show has received widespread critical acclaim, including winning Apple Podcasts Global Show of the Year in 2025. That same year, Syrett began co-hosting special The Rest Is History Club episodes focused on classic works of fiction, including The Handmaid’s Tale and Dracula.
